If you’re searching for a chilled-out place to grab some food or share some drinks with friends in Porto Alegre then Cais Embarcadero is a great place to start. Situated on the river bank, Cais Embarcadero offers the perfect setting for anything ranging from a mid-morning stroll to late-afternoon beers in the sun.
Access, for the most part, is smooth throughout the Cais Embarcadero location. However, some pathways have cobblestones, making it quite challenging for wheelchair users.
Amongst the pop-up stores, bars, and eateries, there is also a disabled-friendly toilet, which can be accessed near one of the venue’s entrances. The toilet is a little on the smaller side and is up against the right-hand wall, meaning transferring can only be achieved from the left side or the front.
The vibe at Cais Embarscadero is super relaxed and easygoing, and despite some areas being a bit difficult to navigate in a wheelchair, you’ll ultimately discover it to be an experience with very few accessibility problems. Beware though, not every store is 100% accessible and some stores have a step to enter and are tightly packed with the items that they sell.
The Good Access at Cais Embarcadero
Large areas of Cais Embarcadero are wheelchair accessible, with several smooth pathways and some restaurants, bars, and shops with a ramped entrance. There are accessible parking spaces near the main entrance and there is also at least one accessible restroom.
The Bad Access at Cais Embarcadero
Not all areas of Cais Embarcadero are wheelchair accessible, with some areas having either gravel or large cobblestone. Some of the stores also have a step to enter. The accessible bathroom is not as large as some may require and there are no obvious accessibility features for those with other forms of disabilities, such as the inclusion of braille signs and menus.

Tips for Improving Accessibility at Cais Embarcadero
The removal of all cobblestones and graveled areas would vastly improve the through-route accessibility of the entire space. The addition of ramps at all stores and restaurants would also improve overall accessibility. Taking into consideration varying types of accessibility needs is a must to cater to those with different disabilities.
